I stopped in for lunch today for the 3rd time ordering the same thing. Having grown up in Augusta, GA, I can be kind of judgy about "Southern BBQ," so I wanted to get a good sampling before putting up a review. First, the decor is kind of a kitschy but there's a dope cow painting. B They have an entire fountain of Jones Cane Soda. Only thing better would be Cheerwine in a bottle. A Placed my order and asked for hot sauce. They don't have hot sauce. ("Dafuq?") You read that right... no Tabasco, Louisiana, or anything. Southern BBQ joints would voluntarily close down if they had no hot sauce. Simply too embarrassing. F- - - - Cornbread: It's the Northerner sweet version and not the Southern version, but very good. I get it for dessert. B Pork & Beans: Sweet, smoky, slightly tangy, and sauced just like they should be. Is it wrong I'm kinda jealous mine aren't this good? A+ Smokey Joey (brisket and pork tips simmered in BBQ sauce): A very good sandwich all 3 times I got it. B+ Staff and service have been consistently great! A+ It's good BBQ, but it misses a couple of key notes necessary for the title "Southern." Almost knocked another star off for no hot sauce, but it's not 3-star Q. 4 it is.

It's fun and festive BBQ and perfect for a casual night out! I wanted to step away from my usual (thai food or tacos) and try something different. We came to Smokey's BBQ and had a great time! Food was yummy! I had the Texas BLT. It comes with BBQ Mayo! and the Texas Toast was super buttery! I sampled some of my man's dinner (he ordered a huge platter of meat). The brisket with hogwash sauce was delicious and the ribs were perfectly sweet and savory! For sides I had the Mac N Cheese (decent but not love) and the cornbread (decent). One cool thing is that they have a Jones Soda drink machine! I will have to try that next time. I would definitely return to try this place out in the summer (when they open up their front windows). The decorations are really cute and whoever wrote the menu should get props because it's very well done! The music is "new country"- please play John Denver! :) Notes: Server was DJ. He was really friendly and you can tell he values customer service. They are BYOB Plenty of parking!- YAY

Drove by this out of the way BBQ place yesterday with my favorite foodie, and we decided to make it our next restaurant stop. Did not disappoint! The Steak tips and the ribs were awesome! As were the signature sides... ridiculously good! BYOB a plus! Out of the way, so no wait to get seated and Steve was a great host. We'll definitely be back! Ty and Alex

Ordered pick-up. Got the half slab of BBQ ribs, cheesy potatoes, & a mini pulled pork sandwich. I was hungry. I am not hungry anymore. The food was delicious. The BBQ sauce is not too sweet and has a nice tangy twist to it. It seems to be family owned -- good hospitality. I'lll definitely be back. Kudos!

This joint is pretty far out of my way, but with lightning fast and ridiculously friendly service, not to mention damn good sandwiches, I find my car steering itself in this direction every so often on my commute back to the city from the northwest burbs. First off, if you're the kind of fool whose eyes are bigger than his stomach and thinks that he can eat two sandwiches because he skipped lunch--think again! These are dense, meaty mother effers. One sandwich will fill you up and then some. Brisket, turkey, pulled pork--take your pick. All excellent. They also sell a sammich called the Smokey Joe which is chopped pork and brisket simmered together in barbecue sauce. Great texture to go along with great taste. Tired of the standard starchy barbecue-joint sides? Check out their cold corn medley. It's got some black beans and some red onion and something else cool and crunchy in there too, maybe jicama? A tasty counterpoint to a heavy meat sandwich or entree. They sell bread pudding, too, which is unfortunately pretty pedestrian. But throw some raisins in there and it will definitely scratch your itch. All in all, this is a really great spot that deserves a lot of business. To me, it's worth an occasional half-hour detour on my drive home, and that's saying a lot for someone with a loathsome commute.

It could be. It might be!. It IS!!!!! Once upon a time in the summer on the Italian Beef Crawl, I was out in Forest Park enjoying a beer and eating a Johnnie's Italian Beef, a guy told me that the best BBQ around was at Smokey's' somewhere on Northwest Highway and I made a mental note but didn't think I'd ever, ever be out in that neighborhood - even for some superlative BBQ! Smokey BBQ is a work of art, the sandwich and mini-sandwich combos are slowcooked to perfection leaving tender meat to meet your lovesick lips in the ultimate BBQ makeout session! Prepare for the breath to be taken out of you because you'll find the meaty miracle to be high impact flavor and the sauces are left on the side for you to slap on if you so desire. Brisket! It was love at first sight. the moment I saw them pulling the brisket out, slowly taking their time to chop me up some slices of brisket and put it into a cute little sandwich roll, I wanted to bite their hands right then and there! With laser concentration, I watched them bring the food closer down the assembly line of deliciousness and made sure to read the number on my winning receipt ticket to grab that plate of brisket! I went to the soda fountain and grabbed myself a Coke Zero. Super excellent bonus points for carrying Coke Zero! I am trying to watch my girlish figure and cannot stand the one extra empty calorie from Diet Coke! Coke Zero RULE! Sitting down, I unwrapped my brisket sandwiches and marveled at the texture of the meat and slipped a piece in my mouth. Do you remember those old school cartoons where the character's eyes would spin all over the place and smoke would be coming out of their ears? That was ME, people! The Hogwash spicy BBQ sauce wasn't knockout spicy but a pleasant mild sweet spicy sauce. I didn't even bother the regular BBQ sauce since I loved it so much. Did I mention cheesy potatoes? No these are not some Taco Bell / KFC food engineered Fiesta potato brought to you by YUM Brands. No, this is some homemade potato au gratin with some cheddar smacked on top. Delicious, delicious, cheeserrific! Ok, I need to be honest, Smokey's got me all hot and bothered and every other BBQ spot is so yesterday's news. Smokey's my new boo now, so everybody else go on get outta here, but leave the free cole slaw with my sandwich order with ME!

It's laughable that their name is close in relation to Smoque BBQ would you agree? For anyone that's never been to either, but has heard the reputation of Smoque, it'd be easy to confuse the two. Only because (It would work out for Smokey's) since many mispronounce Smoque in the same way. Smoque = smoke, not smokey. I've driven passed this place so many times I can't count and they've been here under a year so far. This time I made a u-turn and came back. Stopped in for a smell and look at their menu which ended up with me placing an order of deuce mini sandwiches served up on what reminds me of Hawaiian bread mini rolls. Wheat style. The entrée name is Daily double. You can mix or match and choose from the pulled pork, brisket, smoked turkey and Smokey Joe. Got the brisket and Smokey Joe sandwiches, which consists of a mixture of brisket and pulled pork simmered in their signature sweet and Smokey sauce. Try the Hogwash; It had a bit of smoke, lots of sweet and a bit of spice, just nice. With a side of French fries and Cole slaw. Slaw was tasty and had the right amount of slightly sweet, but more savory and palate cleansing. Nice place with seating for fifty plus, they have additional seating in the rear, by the looks of it I would guess it's a party room. Once you walk in that door you are immersed in the smell of smoke and sauce, you can't help but to order something. Best thing is, they serve booze too. That Smokey Joe sandwich was bangin! I let my pal try the brisket, he's a Smoque BBQ lover and thought this brisket was OK, he was complaining something about the cut of the meat. Whatever dude, I liked mine, I'll be back for seconds.
